Police In Niger State Apprehend Group Of Alleged Phone Snatchers, Including A 10-Year-Old Boy

The Niger State Police Command has apprehended six individuals suspected of involvement in phone snatching, robbery, and thuggery, with operations spanning Minna and Katcha. SP Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the command, revealed this development in a statement released on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

According to the statement, the suspects, including a 10-year-old, were allegedly involved in a burglary in Minna where mobile phones were stolen from a residence. The suspects apprehended include Abdullahi Muhammed (25 years old), residing opposite Odu’oye Quarters; Zakari Ahmad (10 years old), from Fadikpe; Aminu Ismail (16 years old), from Kutirko; Mukhtar Abdullahi (18 years old), also from Kutirko; Sule Attahiru (25 years old), from Rafin-Yashi; and Shamsudeen Sabiu (20 years old), from Darusalam.

The statement further detailed the preliminary investigation, indicating that the suspects confessed to the crime and admitted to selling the stolen phones to individuals in various areas of Minna. Additionally, on May 6, 2024, Aliyu Usman (25 years old) from Badeggi town, Katcha, was arrested for possessing a victim’s android phone. Usman was apprehended during an attempt to format and unlock the handset in Badeggi. His inability to provide a satisfactory account of the phone raised suspicions that he may have robbed the victim with a cutlass. All suspects are currently undergoing investigation.
