In a statement on Saturday, Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi expressed concern over unprofessional behavior by certain officers, highlighting the harm such actions cause to the force’s reputation and public trust.
Adejobi revealed that despite repeated warnings and disciplinary actions, some officers continue to engage in fraudulent practices, including impersonating the Inspector-General to intimidate unsuspecting victims.
“The Nigeria Police Force is deeply concerned about the recurring unprofessional conduct of a few officers, which undermines the standards and integrity of the force.
“Despite consistent warnings and disciplinary measures, some individuals persist in these disgraceful acts, eroding public trust. Particularly troubling is the misuse of the Inspector-General’s name and office to carry out illegal activities,” the statement read.
This tactic, Adejobi noted, often discourages victims from reporting such misconduct due to fear of retaliation or perceived authority.
He called on the public to remain vigilant and report any unethical behavior by officers through appropriate channels, such as the Complaint Response Units or state Commissioners of Police.
“Members of the public are advised to exercise caution when dealing with individuals claiming connections to the IGP or senior officers for undue influence or favors,” Adejobi urged.
