Soludo Vows To Cleanse Anambra Of Fake Native Doctors – Commissioner Reveals

This clarification followed reports of concern among native and traditional doctors after Soludo’s remarks during a recent event, where he condemned the involvement of some native doctors in aiding crimes such as preparing charms for kidnappers and gunmen.
In a statement on Saturday, Mefor explained that the governor’s objective is to sanitize the practice and expose those using traditional medicine as a cover for illegal activities. He reassured genuine practitioners that the government acknowledges their valuable contributions to society.
“For clarity, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has not declared war on all native doctors but is targeting fake and unscrupulous ones involved in criminal activities,” Mefor stated.
He continued, “Investigations across the South-East have revealed disturbing practices among some native doctors, including preparing charms for kidnappers and armed robbers. These actions often involve rituals, which may include human sacrifices for money and protection, tarnishing the image of traditional medicine.
“These harmful practices, which contribute to the rise of vices such as ‘Ego Mbute,’ ‘Oke-Ite,’ and ‘Yahoo Plus,’ are completely alien to the Igbo culture of integrity, hard work, morality, and fear of God. Soludo’s efforts aim to eradicate such evil practices while protecting and respecting genuine traditional medicine practitioners.”
The commissioner added that the governor remains committed to exposing and decisively dealing with native doctors who promote criminality and esoteric practices contrary to Igbo cultural values.
