Police Officer Killed In Latest Attack On Checkpoint

This incident follows a similar attack less than three weeks ago, when gunmen targeted a police checkpoint on Omata-Nnobi Road in nearby Nnewi, resulting in the death of a police officer. That attack involved an explosive device.

According to sources, one police officer, who was the driver of a police vehicle, was killed during the recent attack. The assailants reportedly infiltrated the community by staying in a nearby house. They broke through a wall to enter the compound, forced residents to open the gate, confiscated their phones, and locked them in a room, threatening them with violence if they alerted authorities.

Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the attack and stated that the situation was under control. He added that an operation was underway in the area under the directive of the State Police Commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam.
