Police On High Alert As Fear Grips Anambra Over Daring Kidnapping

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Friday when three armed men abducted the victim near his residence. The assailants, who were operating in an unregistered stainless-coloured Toyota Highlander, fired shots indiscriminately before whisking the victim away.

A viral video currently making the rounds online captured the moment the armed men, in the said vehicle without a number plate, carried out the abduction while firing randomly.

In a statement released on Saturday, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the Command is in possession of the video. He assured the public that the police are committed to ensuring the victim is rescued alive.

According to Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the bravery of the individual who recorded the footage, noting that it is proving helpful in the ongoing rescue efforts.

He stated, “The Anambra State Police Command is utilizing the viral footage showing three armed men in a stainless-coloured Highlander without number plates, who abducted an unsuspecting victim on June 27, 2025, in Awka, as part of its investigation.”

The Commissioner further applauded the individual who recorded the video, emphasizing how such acts of courage play a significant role in assisting law enforcement and potentially saving lives.

He added that the Command is focused on identifying the suspects, collecting evidence, and bringing those responsible to justice.
