Commissioner Disu was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Adepoju Olugbenga, along with area commanders, heads of tactical units, Divisional Police Officers, and other members of the police force.
In a statement to the media following the operation, Olugbenga expressed concern about the recent activities of suspected kidnappers causing disturbances along the Obiri-Ikwerre-Airport Road axis, near the state capital. He revealed that over 12 makeshift tents in abandoned camps used by the suspects were destroyed during the operation.
Olugbenga emphasized that the police regularly conduct such exercises to demonstrate their strength and address security challenges. He highlighted the focus on vulnerable points, especially those prone to criminal activities. The recent surge in incidents along the Obiri-Ikwerre-Airport Road prompted a specific response, with increased patrols and operations in the area.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police explained the strategic importance of the targeted location, mentioning the presence of abandoned buildings and tarred roads behind the stadium, which criminals often exploit for hiding. He underscored the commitment to maintaining a safe environment for residents, including dignitaries and foreigners in key areas like the Airport axis.
Olugbenga concluded by urging law-abiding citizens to collaborate with the police, providing valuable information that could aid in identifying and dismantling criminal hideouts, as well as facilitating the arrest of suspects. The police intend to sustain such operations to ensure the safety and security of the people in Rivers State.
