Members of the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly were prevented by the Rivers State Police Command from entering the State Assembly complex to hold a valedictory session for the late Dinebari Loolo (formerly representing Khana Constituency 2).
On Thursday, when the Amaewhule faction attempted to access the assembly complex, they were halted by police officers who had set up checks in the area. Security measures have been intensified in and around the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, featuring more than 15 patrol vans, various vehicles, and armed police personnel.
Despite accusations from different groups, including civil society organizations, alleging that the police were providing protection for the Amaewhule group in violation of a court order restraining both factions from sitting, the Amaewhule faction proceeded with a session on Wednesday, during which several bills were discussed on the House floor.
