Police Request NLC President’s Presence In Terrorism Financing Probe

The invitation letter, issued by ACP Adamu Muazu on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team, warns that a warrant for Ajaero’s arrest will be issued if he fails to comply.

The letter states, “This office is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime in which you have been implicated. You are required to report for an interview on Tuesday, 20th August 2024, at 10:00 hrs, at Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja. For further details, contact the Team Leader at 08035179870. Failure to comply will result in a warrant for your arrest.”

This development follows recent tensions between the NLC and the government. The NLC has accused the government of targeting the organization after a recent raid on its headquarters by security forces. During a press conference last Thursday in Abuja, NLC leaders denounced the police’s justification for the raid, demanded an apology, the return of seized items, and the release of detained individuals. They also criticized government efforts to interfere with their internal affairs, including a proposed reduction in the tenure of trade union leaders, which they argue breaches labor laws and international conventions.

The police had claimed that the raid was aimed at apprehending an international terrorist suspect, a justification the NLC has rejected as a cover-up, citing discrepancies in the police’s account.
