Katsina Police Command spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq confirmed that officers were dispatched to the area, successfully foiling the attack on Unguwar Batsaka. He stated that six kidnapped victims were rescued, although one person succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during the incident.
The foiled operation took place around 11:25 p.m. after a distress call was made to the Jibia Police Division. A resident, who requested anonymity, reported that the assailants began their assault at approximately 11 p.m., shooting indiscriminately and creating chaos in the community. āThe bandits were numerous, moving from house to house and injuring many, including children. Several others were taken to their hideout,ā the source revealed.
As of yesterday morning, the exact number of individuals abducted by the bandits in Unguwar Batsaka remained unclear. In a related incident early Friday, armed bandits on motorcycles killed two people and abducted 13 residents from the village of Mai Bakkon Dan Auta in Sabuwa Local Government Area. Among the deceased was a member of the Katsina Community Watch Corps, while one of the abducted individuals was Alhaji Imamu, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Mai Bakko ward.
At the time of reporting, the whereabouts of the abducted individuals were still unknown. Both Sabuwa and Jibia are among the local government areas heavily impacted by bandit activities in the state.
