Reports had circulated, including a video shared by his wife, Excel Fabian, alleging that Ihekweme was forcibly taken after his driver was ordered to call him. In the video, Excel claimed that the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, was behind the abduction, and urged the public to hold the governor accountable if anything happened to her husband.
However, Imo State Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, quickly refuted the allegations. In a statement released Thursday, Okoye clarified that Ihekweme was not abducted but was instead arrested by police detectives. He explained that the arrest took place on November 27, following a petition from the civil society group, Imo Democratic Alliance.
“The former commissioner was arrested in response to a petition accusing him of making seditious and inflammatory publications designed to incite civil unrest in the state,” Okoye stated. He emphasized that the arrest was carried out in accordance with due process, with a signed warrant obtained prior to his detention.
Okoye urged the public to disregard the misinformation circulating on social media regarding Ihekweme’s alleged abduction. “The Imo State Police Command remains committed to upholding the rule of law without external influence and will provide timely updates as necessary,” he added.
