“To reduce the number of out-of-school children, we are working on initiatives that not only focus on bringing children back to the classroom but also incorporate skills development for those who may have missed out on formal education,” President Tinubu explained. He stressed that motivation, alongside practical skills, would play a key role in these efforts.
Accompanied by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the President discussed the importance of a well-educated population for Nigeria’s development. He highlighted that insecurity in certain regions has been a significant barrier to education, preventing many children from returning to school. Despite this, Tinubu expressed optimism about the ongoing efforts to repopulate classrooms across the country.
“While insecurity in some parts of the country makes it difficult for children to go back to school, we are gradually making progress. We will also focus on skills development to bridge the gap for those who have been out of school for extended periods,” he said.
Tinubu assured Macron that his government is making strides in addressing the country’s security challenges. “We are winning the fight against insecurity. With more effort, we will achieve greater stability, and this will help our farmers return to their land, ensuring a more stable food supply,” he added.
In his response, President Macron expressed support for Nigeria’s growth potential, stressing the importance of investing in education and skills development. He also reflected on his own experiences during a six-month internship at the French Embassy in Nigeria, which included visits to key cities like Lagos and Kano.
Both Macron and his wife, Brigitte, expressed their gratitude to President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for their State Visit and committed to strengthening the partnership between France and Nigeria. “We look forward to taking our relationship to new heights,” Macron said.
