Suspected armed robbers raided Western Delta University in Oghara, Delta State during the early hours of Thursday, June 20, 2024.

In response, alarmed students from the private university, established by the Urhobo Advancement Foundation (UAF), sought safety by fleeing into nearby bushes.

Upon receiving alerts from the fleeing students, the Police swiftly intervened, promptly responding to the incident. They successfully chased away the criminal gang from the university premises.

Confirming the incident, SP Bright Edafe, spokesperson for the State Police Command, clarified that the suspected robbers exploited a gap in the rear fencing to gain entry. However, the police’s rapid response forced them to retreat before they could carry out any robbery.

Edafe emphasized, “The university is not under siege, and no students were left in the bushes. A group of individuals unlawfully entered the campus through an unfenced area last night. They attempted to rob students, but upon the students raising an alarm, we dispatched a patrol team. The suspects fled upon our arrival.”
