In a statement issued Tuesday by its Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC dismissed Obasanjo’s remarks, insisting the former leader lacked the moral standing to criticize any administration.

Obasanjo, in his newly released book Nigeria: Past and Future, branded Buhari’s tenure as the “worst civil administration” in Nigeria’s history, further adding that Tinubu’s government was “competing” with it.

But the Lagos APC countered sharply, saying, “It is ironic that a man remembered for political arrogance, squandered opportunities, and failed democratic subversion has the audacity to call anyone incompetent.”

Oladejo defended Tinubu’s bold policy decisions—fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange reforms, and moves to fix structural inefficiencies—as steps past leaders, including Obasanjo, either evaded or bungled.

“Obasanjo’s bitterness is well-documented. He cannot control this government, and he resents that Nigeria has moved beyond his era of egocentric, do-or-die politics,” the party said, calling his attacks on sitting presidents “predictable and pathetic.”

The Lagos APC further accused Obasanjo of presiding over one of the most corrupt regimes in Nigeria’s history. According to Oladejo, “Billions vanished in the power sector under his watch with nothing to show. He left the economy weighed down by foreign debt after claiming he had cleared it. His infamous third-term agenda nearly plunged the country into crisis, while corruption thrived under the guise of reforms.”

Advising Obasanjo to “exercise decorum befitting his age,” the APC said elders should guide, not agitate.

Reaffirming its backing for President Tinubu, the Lagos APC stated: “Tinubu is not in competition with Obasanjo or anyone else. He is focused on reform, recovery, and renewal. No amount of potshots from bitter men of yesterday will derail Nigeria’s progress.”

The party concluded by blaming Obasanjo for laying much of the structural rot Nigeria still grapples with: “The mess did not begin with Buhari and is not being worsened by Tinubu—it began long before, under leaders who now pretend to be saints.”
