Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has strongly denied accusations of involvement in the October 29, 2023, fire that destroyed the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The allegations were made by George Nwaeke, a former Rivers State Head of Service, who claimed that both Ehie and Fubara orchestrated the incident. However, speaking during a live appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program, Ehie categorically dismissed the claims, expressing shock upon hearing the news of the fire.
“It is crucial to state that I had no hand in, nor was I part of, the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly,” Ehie stated. He explained that, like many others, he first learned about the incident on the morning of October 30, 2023.
Ehie disclosed that he had instructed his legal team to file a criminal libel lawsuit against Nwaeke, labeling the allegations as false and malicious. He emphasized his intention to let the legal process address the matter, while also questioning Nwaeke’s motives, suggesting they were driven by political pressure and personal gain.
Ehie also redirected focus to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, hinting that the speaker should be questioned since the fire reportedly started shortly after his convoy was granted entry to the complex.
Furthermore, Ehie criticized Nwaeke for succumbing to political influence and described him as an opportunist seeking “emergency riches.” He referenced WhatsApp messages in which Nwaeke allegedly requested financial assistance following his resignation as head of service, suggesting that Nwaeke’s current stance was influenced by personal ambition rather than legitimate concerns.
Addressing the recent outcry from Nwaeke’s wife over his sudden disappearance, Ehie suggested that the situation was a reflection of a man who had compromised his conscience for material benefits.
In conclusion, Ehie dismissed Nwaeke’s credibility, stating that he did not hold any significant or influential position within Rivers State’s governance.
