The defection ceremony, held in Vandeikya, drew an impressive crowd of supporters and was described by party leaders as “a total collapse of opposition” in the area — the home base of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Speaking at the event, Benue State APC Chairman, Benjamin Omale, declared that the mass defection marked the end of opposition politics in Vandeikya.
“With what we are witnessing today, there is no longer any opposition in Vandeikya LGA,” Omale stated. “This is the governor’s home base, and the people have shown where their confidence lies.”
He noted that the turnout reflected the wide popularity and strong performance of Governor Alia’s administration.
Leading the defectors were Dominic Akaaha, a former PDP governorship aspirant, and Cletus Akwaya, a former Commissioner for Information, who joined forces with several ADC and LP members to pledge allegiance to the APC.
Omale emphasized that the calibre of politicians defecting to the ruling party was evidence of its growing dominance in Benue politics.
“The calibre of politicians who joined the APC today shows clearly that there is no longer any serious opposition in Vandeikya,” he said.
He attributed the wave of defections to the visible achievements of Governor Alia and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which he said had revived public trust in the APC.
“The massive defection you witnessed today is a result of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s performance in all areas of governance,” Omale added. “It is clear that Vandeikya is now firmly sealed for Governor Alia.”
Describing the event as historic, Omale said the participation of prominent sons and daughters of Kunav land demonstrated confidence in the leadership of both the state and federal governments.
He further disclosed that similar defection rallies were expected across other local government areas in the coming weeks.
“The turnout today shows that the people of Benue State are pleased with President Bola Tinubu and Governor Hyacinth Alia,” Omale said. “We urge all Benue people to continue supporting them in the next general elections to advance good governance and improve the lives of Nigerians.”
