Political Earthquake In Rivers! Wike Reacts To Fubara’s Second Term Bid
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday addressed speculations about Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s possible re-election bid in 2027.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Wike avoided making a direct commitment, cautioning that such discussions could generate needless political tension in the state.
When pressed on whether he would support Fubara’s second-term ambition, Wike urged stakeholders to focus on governance rather than premature politicking.
He said:
“Let’s not raise issues that can cause unnecessary crisis. We still have two years ahead. Our priority should be helping the governor deliver good governance. Rivers people want development, not second-term debates.”
Wike stressed that his main concern was ensuring stability and continuity in governance.
Responding to claims that he still influenced appointments in the Rivers State Executive Council, the former governor dismissed the allegations as baseless.
“I don’t have any candidate. Even if the governor consults me, I would only advise him not to destroy what we have built, but to move the state forward,” he clarified.
On the reported tussle over the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers, Wike dismissed it as the handiwork of mischief-makers.
“There has never been a disagreement. Those fueling crisis are the ones pushing leadership debates. Leadership is not about noise-making. The governor manages administration, while political leadership is a different matter,” he explained.
