Political Earthquake: Kwankwaso Moves Closer To APC As Talks With Chairman Conclude-More Detail Insides

Fresh reports indicate that former New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has entered into high-level talks with the All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, to finalise his defection to the ruling party.

According to Daily Trust, Kwankwaso, a former Governor of Kano State, has already written to the APC national secretariat in Abuja, formally notifying the party of his intention to join.

Sources within the APC revealed that discussions between Kwankwaso and the party’s leadership have reached an advanced stage. “As a party, we will abide by whatever decision the leaders feel is in the interest of the APC,” one insider said.

Kwankwaso, along with his Kwankwasiyya movement, was instrumental in securing the NNPP’s victory in Kano during the last elections, which saw Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf defeat APC’s Nasir Yusuf Gawuna.

However, insiders disclosed that Kwankwaso has tabled conditions for his return, including assurances that Governor Yusuf will be allowed to secure the APC governorship ticket and that he (Kwankwaso) will occupy a significant role in the next APC government.

A Kano APC source noted that the letter was directed to the party’s national leadership in Abuja rather than the state chapter, given Kwankwaso’s longstanding rift with the Kano APC leadership.

Meanwhile, close associates of Governor Yusuf have hinted at his readiness to follow his mentor’s lead, with one saying: “Our governor has no objection at all. He is only waiting for Kwankwaso’s green light.”

When contacted, APC National Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, dismissed reports of the letter, describing them as speculative. However, he affirmed that the party remains open to welcoming Kwankwaso or any other politician who shares its progressive ideals and is willing to work for its success.
