Political Firestorm: Makinde’s PDP Bloc Slams Rivals, Vows To Forge Ahead With Primaries

During the media briefing, Wike had threatened to disrupt the party’s primaries and convention meant to produce its 2027 presidential candidate. He also warned that any bank facilitating the opening of accounts by the Turaki-led faction for the sale of nomination forms would face consequences, insisting such actions would amount to defrauding Nigerians. He further claimed that Taminu Turaki could lose his Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) title if he proceeded with such moves.

Reacting in a statement on Wednesday, the National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee, Ini Ememobong, dismissed Wike’s threats, affirming that the PDP’s primaries and national convention would go ahead as planned.

The Makinde-aligned bloc said it would typically ignore such remarks but chose to respond in order to address Nigerians, even expressing regret over previously supporting Wike’s rise to public office.

The statement condemned Wike’s comments as baseless attacks on respected individuals, describing them as empty rhetoric lacking substance. It added that those targeted by his remarks should consider seeking legal redress, stressing that no one is above the law.

Reaffirming its claim as the legitimate leadership of the party, the faction also stated that Wike has no path to becoming a “national leader” of the PDP, noting that such a position does not exist within the party’s constitution.

The group concluded by assuring Nigerians that no amount of intimidation would derail the truth or halt the party’s planned activities.
