Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has described the departure of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke from the party as a desperate attempt at political survival.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking to reporters in Lagos on Tuesday in a statement titled “State of the Nation, Dear Mr President Our Nation is Wobbling Politically”, George said the ongoing crisis within the PDP may have prompted Adeleke’s hasty exit, but he insisted it reflects a move borne out of desperation. He pointed to the lack of clarity over the party’s leadership as a key factor.

“As a life member of the PDP Board of Trustees, I maintain without ambiguity: anyone wishing to leave the party is free to do so. A political party, like a tree, grows stronger when unhealthy branches fall away,” George said.

APC Accused of Political Interference

George also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government of attempting to weaken the PDP and undermine Nigeria’s democracy. He called on President Bola Tinubu to instruct the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, to stop interfering in PDP affairs.

He claimed the APC government is more focused on political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections than on national security, criticizing its slow response to rising insecurity, including kidnappings and killings nationwide.

“Instead of responding with urgency, the APC-led Federal Government appears preoccupied with political positioning ahead of 2027, even if it means weakening institutions and suffocating the opposition,” George stated.

PDP National Secretariat Clash

Highlighting the recent disruption at the PDP National Secretariat on November 18, 2025, George called it a “grave warning” of anti-democratic tendencies. He directly implicated Minister Wike, alleging that the forced entry was encouraged by a serving federal minister aligned with a faction recently expelled from the party.

“The actions of a group previously expelled for anti-party activities, reportedly encouraged by a serving Federal Minister, constitute an unacceptable assault on democratic order… The forced entry into the PDP National Secretariat crossed every line of decency and legality,” George said.

He also questioned police involvement during the clash, which included the use of tear gas to disperse factional members. “Who authorised the police to take over the headquarters? Under what authority? Since when does a tenant overtake a landlord?” he asked.

George concluded that the APC-led government is using the situation to weaken the PDP, which he described as “the only true national party in Nigeria,” by offering police protection to “renegades.”

Appeal and Warning

He directly appealed to President Tinubu to call Minister Wike to order and issued a stern warning to the minister:

“To Minister Nyesom Wike, I speak as an elder: you have been a major beneficiary of the PDP—as Chairman of a Local Government, Chief of Staff, Minister, and Governor. The party nurtured your political rise. It is therefore painful to watch you take actions that could damage the very institution that supported you. Power is temporary; reputation is permanent. Do not allow yourself to be used as an instrument to destabilise the Republic. History is replete with lessons. When institutions are weakened, chaos follows. This is not the path Nigeria deserves.”
