Speaking at the inauguration of 54 heavy-duty construction machines procured by the Edo State government for its 18 local government councils, Wike commended Okpebholo for fostering grassroots development, which he said has laid a foundation for Tinubu’s re-election. He described the initiative as a major boost to rural economic empowerment.
“You have shown commitment to the economy of local governments. You have proven that development must reach rural areas,” Wike said.
“You have laid the groundwork for the President’s re-election. While the opposition was busy deceiving people with roadside gimmicks, Mr. President was focused on developing the FCT. With 62 councillors, APC won 45, PDP won 17—this illustrates the ruling party’s strength over the opposition.”
Governor Okpebholo, addressing the gathering, described the equipment handover as a strategic move to strengthen local government administration.
“Today marks an important step in our dedication to grassroots development under our SHINE Agenda,” he said.
“Development must not be concentrated only at the center; it must reach every village, community, and ward. Our local governments must be equipped to provide effective governance for the people of Edo State.These machines are instruments of transformation. They are intended to open rural roads, improve drainage, support sanitation, and accelerate local infrastructure projects. They are not for display or storage—they are for action.”
