Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has stated that investigating the attendance of suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, at the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting in New York will cause embarrassment to some high-ranking officials in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, who were previously accused of traveling abroad to undermine the Sani Abacha-led military regime.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

At the IPU meeting on March 11, Natasha discussed her Senate suspension, claiming it was a move to silence her over the sexual harassment allegations made against Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

In response, Akpabio remarked on the Senate floor that the Kogi senator’s actions at the IPU meeting had humiliated the Nigerian government and its citizens.

A report surfaced on March 16, 2025, indicating that the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) had initiated an investigation into how Natasha attended the IPU meeting without official approval.

However, in a statement issued on Sunday, Falana cautioned against any such investigation by security agencies. He warned that probing the circumstances of Natasha’s trip would only lead to unnecessary public shame and ridicule for Nigeria.

Falana’s statement read: “It is widely known that Senate President Godswill Akpabio accused Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of embarrassing the government and people of Nigeria by taking her suspension to the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Contrary to Akpabio’s views, it is the official investigation into her trip by security forces that will bring unnecessary embarrassment and ridicule to Nigeria.

“Therefore, the DSS and NIA should review the report on illegal travels by the Sani Abacha military junta before embarking on any futile probe of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for airing the ‘internal affairs of the Senate’ abroad. In fact, such a probe would particularly embarrass some senior officials in the Bola Tinubu administration, who were once accused of traveling abroad to embarrass the former military regime.”
