The turmoil, which began on January 13, 2025, stemmed from the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. After a series of high-level meetings, APC leaders have allegedly reached a resolution, leading to Meranda’s imminent resignation.

A senior APC leader, speaking to Daily Trust, revealed, “It’s only a matter of time. Sources suggest her resignation letter is ready. However, it remains unclear if she will submit it on the House floor, as lawmakers are on indefinite recess.”

Negotiations involved top figures such as former APC National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, ex-Osun State Governor Chief Segun Osoba, and former Lagos Commissioner for Justice Dr. Muiz Banire (SAN). Reports indicate that President Tinubu reiterated his disapproval of Obasa’s impeachment during the decisive meeting.

A party insider confirmed, “As of today (Tuesday), talks are still ongoing, but I can assure you that the Speaker’s resignation is imminent.”

Meanwhile, the Progressives Alliance, an APC faction, dismissed claims that party leaders endorsed Obasa’s impeachment reversal. They asserted that Obasa was absent from the crucial meeting, while Meranda had already submitted her resignation letter to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The group further referenced a National Industrial Court ruling reinstating sacked Clerk Olalekan Onafeko, citing it as further proof that Obasa’s impeachment was illegitimate.
