Political Tensions Soar: Rivers Government Responds To Fubara’s Removal, Promises Swift Action

In a statement issued on behalf of the state government, Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, assured citizens that the government, under the leadership of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, remains dedicated to maintaining peace and upholding constitutional order during these tense times. He emphasized that the state government will continue to collaborate with relevant institutions to address the crisis and restore normalcy to Rivers State.

Johnson reaffirmed that the government is steadfast in its commitment to constitutional governance and the safety of Rivers residents, saying, “Governor Fubara has always acted in line with his constitutional oath, prioritizing the safety and well-being of the people.”

The commissioner also highlighted the government’s recent efforts, including the reinstatement of commissioners who had resigned and the immediate steps taken to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling. However, he expressed disappointment that certain political figures, particularly members of the Rivers State House of Assembly allegedly influenced by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have hindered peace efforts.

Johnson pointed out that while the governor had been removed, Wike, identified as a major player in the crisis, had not been held accountable. Nonetheless, he assured the public that governance in Rivers State is continuing, with salaries being paid, development projects underway, and the state remaining secure under the current administration.

He urged Rivers residents to maintain peace and obey the law during this critical period, reaffirming the government’s commitment to working with relevant institutions to ensure a thriving democracy in the state.

“We will continue to act in the best interests of the people, taking all necessary steps to protect lives, property, and ensure unity and progress in Rivers State,” Johnson concluded, emphasizing the government’s focus on long-term stability despite the political challenges.
