PDP Anambra chairman, Chidi Chidebe, confirmed the change during an interview with journalists in Awka on Saturday. He stated that the shift was approved by the National Secretariat to complete necessary administrative processes and ensure the primary is conducted smoothly.

Chidebe emphasized that the PDP is the most peaceful party in Anambra, prepared and united to contest, urging party members to prioritize public and party interests over personal ambitions.

“Our primary election will now hold on Tuesday, April 8,” he said. “With the confusion in other parties, it’s clear that PDP is not the problem.”

The primary will determine the party’s candidate for the November 8 governorship election.

Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Abuja, led by Hon. Justice Inyang Ekwo, has issued a restraining order preventing the PDP from interfering with the leadership and activities of the Dan Orbih-led South-South Zonal Working Committee. The committee was elected on February 22, 2025, in Calabar, Cross River State.

The court’s order will remain in effect until the resolution of the suit, numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/505/2025, filed by Chief Orbih and his committee members. The order also prohibits the Chief Emmanuel Ogidi-led Caretaker Committee from presenting themselves or acting as members of the South-South Zonal Working Committee or party leaders in the zone.

Justice Ekwo has instructed that the main suit be heard on an expedited basis.
