Political Witch-Hunt? Edo AG Slams PDP’s Tribunal Case Against Okpebholo As A Joke
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Edo State, Dr. Samson Osagie, has asserted that from the beginning, it was evident the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had no solid case against the victory of Governor Monday Okpebholo and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 21, 2024 governorship election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Osagie pointed out that the PDP and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, failed to provide credible evidence during the tribunal proceedings to back their claims. He stressed that mere allegations without proof are insufficient to overturn an election result.
Speaking during the 10th-anniversary memorial of his late father, Pa Samson Imarhiagbe-Ogbewe, held at their family residence in Urhokuosa, Uhunmwode Local Government Area, Osagie told reporters:
“We have always known that His Excellency, Governor Okpebholo, won the election of September 21, 2024. It’s therefore not surprising that the tribunal found no merit in the allegations, as there was no evidence of electoral malpractice from the petitioners.”
He continued:
“Allegations alone are not enough. It’s not just about making noise and claiming victory—you must prove it. The PDP and their candidate completely failed in that regard. They didn’t call a single eyewitness from any part of the state. You can’t fabricate documents, submit them to the court, and expect the tribunal to piece it all together for you.”
Osagie further criticized the PDP for failing to guide the tribunal through the technological evidence they presented:
“If the judges were to start analyzing BVAS devices and studying documents without guidance, they might as well go to Harvard to learn how to use the machines. It was the petitioners’ responsibility to explain their evidence and make it understandable to the tribunal.”
Reflecting on the 10-year remembrance of his father, Osagie expressed heartfelt gratitude to friends, family, and well-wishers who have stood by them over the years. He reaffirmed the family’s commitment to upholding their late patriarch’s values of diligence and integrity.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, former Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, Edo State Commissioner for Finance Osaretin Edosomwan, and Emmanuel Okoebor, among others.
