According to a statement signed by Reuben Muoka, Director of Public Affairs, the NCC has withdrawn the disconnection approval granted to MTN for disconnecting Globacom, in line with the resolution reached between the two parties.
The statement emphasizes the NCC’s commitment to mitigating potential disruptions to subscribers by actively mediating between the telecom companies and facilitating the reconciliation process. The regulatory intervention aims to ensure a smooth resolution of disputes within the industry.
The NCC underscores the importance of strict adherence to the terms and conditions of licenses, particularly those outlined in interconnection agreements, for all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and other licensees in the telecommunications sector.
To proactively address and prevent future instances of interconnect indebtedness in the industry, the Commission announces its intention to request relevant records and regular updates from MNOs. Additionally, a transparent approach will be adopted in dealing with industry indebtedness.
The statement serves as a reminder of the NCC’s dedication to fostering a stable and compliant telecommunications ecosystem in Nigeria, highlighting the importance of regulatory oversight and industry cooperation.
