Power Shift Looms: ALGON Endorses Wamakko As Tinubu’s VP For 2027 Race

The Sokoto State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has distanced itself from a recent suggestion advocating Senator Aliyu Wamakko (APC – Sokoto North) as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued to the press on Monday in Sokoto, the State ALGON Chairman and Chairman of Tambuwal Local Government Area, Alhaji Abba Shehu-Tambuwal, clarified that the remarks were the personal opinion of ALGON Secretary and Kebbe LGA Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Yarima, and not the official position of the association.

“Our colleague, who also serves as secretary, was expressing a personal view—not that of ALGON Sokoto. He acted independently, without prior consultation or approval from the association,” Shehu-Tambuwal emphasized.

He described Yarima’s comments, which implied that Wamakko may be eyeing the vice-presidency in 2027, as “baseless and lacking in credibility.”

“To date, Senator Wamakko has not declared any interest in contesting for the Vice President’s seat. As such, any speculation in that regard is premature and unwarranted,” he added.

The chairman advised the public to disregard Yarima’s remarks and urged for caution and responsibility when addressing sensitive national topics.

ALGON Sokoto warned against unfounded claims and stressed the need for thorough fact-checking before making public declarations.

Shehu-Tambuwal concluded by reminding members of the association to refrain from issuing unauthorized statements and to always use official communication channels when engaging with the public on important matters.
