The Mission also urged U.S. citizens in Nigeria to remain highly vigilant, particularly in areas often visited by expatriates, government workers, and other Western nationals.
“Be alert in public spaces, avoid large gatherings, and minimize unnecessary travel,” the advisory recommended. Citizens were further advised to vary their routines, be aware of emergency exits in buildings, and maintain updated personal security plans.
Despite the cautionary measures, the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos remain open and fully operational, continuing to provide consular assistance.
The Mission also encouraged American nationals to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive real-time alerts and emergency updates while in Nigeria.
