Presidency Claps Back At Atiku’s Critique Of Lagos-Calabar Highway Project....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Presidency has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s remarks regarding the construction of the 700km Lagos-Calabar coastal highway. Atiku, through his media aide, Paul Ibe, accused the Bola Tinubu administration of engaging in dubious activities concerning the project, alleging that personal interests supersede national infrastructure development, and citing a lack of transparency.

Specifically, Atiku raised concerns about the project’s allocation to Gilbert Chagoury’s Hitech Construction Company Limited (Hitech), questioning the absence of a documented competitive bidding process or approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Responding to Atiku’s assertions in an interview with The Punch, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, denounced Atiku’s claims as “erroneous” and “irresponsible.” Onanuga accused Atiku of attempting to undermine the Tinubu administration, labeling his comments as unfounded and false.

Furthermore, Onanuga clarified that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project is distinct from the rail line from Lagos to Calabar, which was awarded during the tenure of Goodluck Jonathan. He emphasized that the coastal road project is entirely new and aims to significantly reduce travel distances between Lagos and Calabar.

Onanuga defended the project’s cost and highlighted its potential benefits, asserting that attacking such initiatives undermines national progress. He emphasized that the project is in its initial phase and will undergo further approvals by the Federal Executive Council for subsequent phases.

In conclusion, Onanuga criticized Atiku’s remarks as baseless and urged for a fair assessment of government projects aimed at enhancing the country’s infrastructure and connectivity.
