Tragedy Strikes Wamakko’s Residence: Nine Lives Lost During Palliative Distribution In Sokoto....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

At least nine individuals have tragically lost their lives, with numerous others sustaining serious injuries in a stampede that erupted at the residence of former Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Wamakko. The distressing incident unfolded on Thursday evening as locals vied for palliative provisions being distributed at the senator’s home in the Gawon Nama vicinity of the state.

Reports indicate that one volunteer from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was among the casualties of this unfortunate event. Those injured in the chaos were swiftly transported to hospitals for treatment, where they are currently undergoing medical care, with Senator Wamakko reportedly covering the incurred expenses.

Responding to the incident, Ahmed Rufai, the spokesperson for the Sokoto Police Command, confirmed that an investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances leading to the stampede. However, he could not provide a precise figure regarding the number of casualties at the scene.

This incident adds to a troubling trend of stampedes witnessed across the country in recent months. In March, three students of Nasarawa State University in Keffi (NSUK) lost their lives in a similar stampede during the distribution of rice donated by the state government. Additionally, approximately seven individuals perished in a stampede during the distribution of zakat (almsgiving exercise) in Bauchi state.

This tragedy underscores the urgent need for proper crowd control measures and safety protocols during such distributions to prevent further loss of lives in the future.
