Presidency Drops Bombshell: The Real Reason Behind Shettima’s Aide’s Sh*cking Sack

Fresh details have surfaced on why President Bola Tinubu dismissed Fegho Umunubo, his Special Assistant on Digital and Creative Economy, who worked directly under Vice President Kashim Shettima.

According to Presidency insiders who spoke with Premium Times, Umunubo was relieved of his duties after being linked to a series of alleged scams within the creative industry. He was accused of exploiting his position by signing questionable sponsorship deals with filmmakers and creatives, promising government-backed funding and visibility that never materialised.

One high-profile case involved author and producer Arese Ugwu, creator of The Smart Money Woman series. Documents reportedly showed Umunubo signed a ₦10 million sponsorship deal for Ugwu’s spin-off project Lara Unlimited, granting the Presidency’s digital economy office promotional rights across movie posters, event backdrops, adverts, and podcasts. However, the sponsorship was never fulfilled. On August 30, Ugwu went public on Instagram, accusing Umunubo of fraud and alleging he made promises without proper authorisation.

Presidency sources further claimed Ugwu’s case was only one of several, alleging that Umunubo “scammed multiple people in the industry using that office.” Though he was quietly dismissed in August, he allegedly continued parading himself as a presidential aide. This prompted the State House to issue a formal notice on Monday, signed by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information, warning stakeholders in the creative sector to desist from dealing with him.

The statement read: “Kindly note that he no longer represents this administration in any capacity. Henceforth, anyone who interfaces with him in the name of President Tinubu’s administration does so at his or her own risk.”
