Presidency Hit By Sad Loss As Media Aide Onwubuariri Passes Away

The State House has been thrown into mourning following the death of Peter Onwubuariri, an Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations, who passed away in Kano on Monday evening at the age of 48.

According to reports, Onwubuariri died after a prolonged illness. His wife, Catherine Ezinna Onwubuariri, confirmed the development, revealing that he had undergone treatment for about a month at the Kano Cancer Hospital following approval from the Kano State Government.

Onwubuariri was a seasoned journalist who previously worked with the News Agency of Nigeria before joining the State House, where he served as a senior information officer.

Following his death, the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital released his remains on Tuesday for transportation to Owerri, Imo State, where he is expected to be laid to rest.

The remains were formally handed over to Oche Echeija Egwa, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House, who received them on behalf of Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

The handover was witnessed by Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, spokesperson to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, as well as Sulaiman Dederi, Chairman of the Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

Reacting to the development, Governor Yusuf expressed his condolences to President Bola Tinubu, the Presidential Media Unit and the family of the late information officer.

In a statement issued through Dawakin-Tofa, the governor described Onwubuariri as a dedicated professional whose work contributed significantly to the image and reputation of the Presidency.

The governor also sympathised with Onwubuariri’s colleagues, friends and associates, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.

Yusuf further prayed for divine strength and comfort for the deceased’s family as they come to terms with the loss.
