In a statement released on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Eze, a former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), alleged that Wike’s deep connections within the Presidency were fueling the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State.
He claimed that Wike, with backing from the Presidency, was orchestrating efforts to unseat Fubara and install Speaker Martins Amaewhule as governor, thereby tightening his grip on power ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Wike, leveraging his political alliance with Tinubu, is actively working to destabilize Rivers State and derail Governor Fubara. Their ultimate objective is to position Amaewhule as governor to maintain control over the state’s political structure leading into 2027,” Eze asserted.
‘Fubara’s Removal Plot Will Collapse’
Despite the alleged plans, Eze insisted that any attempt to impeach Fubara would be futile, arguing that it would only reinforce the governor’s position rather than weaken him.
“These undemocratic schemes to remove Fubara will crumble like a house of cards and will ultimately make him even stronger,” he stated.
Eze further warned that President Tinubu’s close ties with Wike could damage his political credibility, cautioning, “I have repeatedly advised President Tinubu that his association with Wike will not only undermine the APC but also tarnish his reputation as a democrat.”
He also pointed out the historical political dynamics of Rivers State, arguing that those pushing for Fubara’s removal were disregarding the region’s power balance.
“For 24 years, Rivers State has been ruled by leaders from the upland region—from Dr. Peter Odili to Rotimi Amaechi and then Nyesom Wike. Fubara is the first governor from the riverine axis, and now there is a calculated attempt to cut his tenure short,” he emphasized.
