Addressing a gathering of 16,190 lawyers, he impromptu speech energized the audience while emphasizing that Nigeria’s prosperity hinges on eradicating poverty from society, achieved through focused collaboration with private sector leaders, many of whom were present at the opening ceremony.

“Can we endure the burden of servicing external debts with 90% of our revenue? This trajectory leads to destruction. It is unsustainable. We must undertake the profoundly challenging changes necessary for our nation to rouse from slumber and gain reverence among the world’s great nations,” the President firmly declared.

Centered on the conference’s theme, “Getting it Right: Charting the Course for Nigeria’s Nation-Building,” President Tinubu asserted that imperative decisions must be made to steer the country onto a path of growth, despite the initial hardships that accompany meaningful reforms.

“Our desired nation cannot materialize without the reforms we have set in motion. While the initial phase can be painful, both in the short and medium term, we must execute the necessary steps to propel this nation toward its grand destiny.

It transcends individual interests—it’s about the generations yet to come, to whom we must leave a prosperous and exceptional nation,” he affirmed.

Drawing from his well-recognized judicial reforms as the former Governor of Lagos State, President Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to definitively address the pressing matter of remuneration for judicial officers and legal practitioners.

He underscored that authentic justice reform must commence with offering world-class salaries and benefits to legal professionals in Nigeria.

“We possess knowledge; I seek to learn. How is it that we are endowed but still find ourselves wanting? A shift in attitude and mindset is crucial. Our criticisms are directed towards the past and the previous leaders of our nation.

However, is that the solution? No. We must look forward and be resolute. We have been provided with the resources we require. We must diligently labor with unwavering determination to uplift our nation, and it starts right here, with those of you seated beside me,” the President concluded.
