In a statement issued on Monday, Jacobs expressed his concern about Bawa’s prolonged detention, citing provisions within the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.
He highlighted that a remand order typically lasts for a maximum of 56 days, but Bawa has been detained for 68 days, which he deemed a violation of the rule of law.
Jacobs emphasized the importance of adhering to legal procedures and respecting the rights of individuals, even in high-profile cases like Bawa’s.
He called on the relevant authorities to act in line with justice and the rule of law in the handling of Bawa’s case and other similar cases.
The statement concluded with a reminder that the continued detention of Bawa for an extended period is no longer justifiable under the law, and it is crucial to uphold democratic principles and human rights in such matters.
