The demonstration, gaining momentum in the wake of recent abductions, including the tragic killing of a university student, underscores a growing discontent with what is perceived as government inaction.

The planned march towards the Attorney-General’s office signifies a demand for decisive action against kidnappers and bandits, advocating for their official classification as terrorists. This call resonates strongly with a populace deeply affected by a continuous surge in abductions and violence.

The shadow of tragedy looms large over the protest, stretching from the Dutsen-Alhaji estate in Bwari.

Nineteen residents are still held captive, with the release of nine contingent on a staggering N700 million ransom. Tragically, four hostages, including a promising young student, have already met a brutal end, purportedly due to delays in ransom payment.

The anguish in the region deepens with the plight of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, a fourth-year biological science student at Ahmadu Bello University, abducted alongside six siblings.

Five sisters, including another high-achieving student, Nadherah, are still in captivity after their father’s release. The kidnappers’ escalating ransom demands, initially set at N60 million and now doubled, compound the family’s harrowing ordeal.

Folashade Ariyo’s family shares a similar plight. Her mother and three siblings face an uncertain fate alongside the captives in Dutsen-Alhaji, their lives hanging precariously in the balance. The heart-wrenching killing of Folashade, a 13-year-old, has sparked nationwide outrage, further propelling the momentum of the protest.
