Meanwhile, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Muslims across Nigeria to look out for the new moon of Shawwal 1446AH on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
The directive was conveyed in a statement issued on Friday, March 28, 2025, by the Waziri of Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, emphasizing that moon sighting on March 29, the 29th day of Ramadan 1446AH, is crucial in determining the conclusion of Ramadan and the official date for Eid-El-Fitr.
The Sultan advised that anyone who sights the moon should promptly report their observations via the designated phone numbers provided.
If the new moon is confirmed, it will signify the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. An official announcement on Eid-El-Fitr will be made by the Sultanate Council based on verified moon sightings.
The Nigerian federal government has also declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays to mark the end of the Ramadan fast.
