M.I highlighted that many entertainers encounter financial difficulties when they try to conform to external expectations instead of aligning with their actual financial realities. He noted that in Nigeria, where financial challenges are common, the urge to project a certain image to avoid public scrutiny can be particularly strong.
The rapper also reflected on the fleeting nature of wealth and fame, pointing to examples of once-successful celebrities who now face financial struggles. “When I understood that people in Nigeria tend to broke shame others, I had to decide whether to let it influence me. If you don’t address it, it gains excessive power over you,” he said.
He added that adjusting one’s lifestyle to meet fans’ or the public’s expectations is a sure path to financial strain. “If you are not comfortable with being broke shamed over what you drive or own, you risk constantly trying to match others’ standards—and that is how you go broke,” M.I explained.
