The police had earlier announced on December 15, 2025, that enforcement of the policy would resume from January 2, 2026, as part of measures aimed at enhancing public safety and internal security.
However, the Force revealed that it was later served with an interim order dated December 17, 2025, in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, restraining it from implementing the policy pending the hearing and determination of the substantive case or the lifting of the order.
In a statement released on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the NPF said it had entered an appearance in court, filed preliminary objections, and applied for the interim order to be set aside.
The matter has been adjourned to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
“In compliance with the existing court order, the Nigeria Police Force has suspended enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy nationwide until the court reaches a decision,” the statement said.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s respect for the rule of law, noting that the police would continue to rely on lawful and intelligence-led approaches to tackle security challenges and safeguard lives and property.
The police also assured the public that updates and clear directives would be issued after the court concludes the matter, in the interest of public order and national security.
