The event, attended by representatives from religious, traditional, political, and women’s groups across Wukari, Takum, and Ussa LGAs, highlighted the gravity of the situation. “Taraba has suffered from divisions fueled by religion, ethnic tensions, and chieftaincy disputes. These factors continue to be the primary drivers of conflict in the three LGAs we’ve assessed,” he stated.
Para-Mallam, who leads the Gideon-Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation, emphasized the foundation’s efforts through Project Zamanlafiya Taraba—an initiative aimed at promoting dialogue, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence among the state’s diverse communities. He also announced the formation of Conflict Management Support Groups in Wukari, Takum, and Ussa LGAs. These groups are intended to empower local communities to take charge of peacebuilding and address conflicts at their root causes.
“Our mission is to spread the message of peace and ensure that the leaders and stakeholders in these communities drive the process of interfaith and inter-ethnic harmony,” Para-Mallam said.
The event saw broad support from various community representatives, including Christian and Muslim leaders, youth organizations, and political figures, all pledging to collaborate toward peace across Taraba South and the entire state. Justina Achiken, the women’s leader of the Jukun Youth Cultural and Development Association, reinforced the need for inclusivity in peacebuilding efforts. She pointed out that while women often bear the brunt of conflict, they are also key players in the reconciliation and healing processes within communities.
