In October 2023, Mr Ibu fell ill, leading to the amputation of one of his legs to combat a life-threatening condition.

This drastic measure became necessary due to an undetected arterial infection at the ankle.

Tragically, the celebrated actor ultimately succumbed to cardiac arrest following the amputation.

Here are eleven noteworthy aspects of Mr Ibu’s life and career:

  1. John Ikechukwu Okafor was born on October 17, 1961.
  2. He was a prominent Nigerian actor and comedian.
  3. Mr Ibu gained widespread recognition in 2004 with the release of the movie “Mr Ibu,” co-starring Osita Iheme.
  4. Over his illustrious career, Okafor appeared in over 200 Nollywood films, including notable titles like “Mr. Ibu and His Son,” “Coffin Producers,” “Husband Suppliers,” “International Players,” and “Mr. Ibu in London,” among others.
  5. In October 2020, the veteran actor ventured into music, releasing two singles titled “This Girl” and “Do You Know.”
  6. In 2012, Mr Ibu voiced his opposition to homosexuality in Nollywood, likening it to a virus.
  7. He graduated from the Institute of Management and Technology in Enugu State.
  8. He passed away at the age of 62.
  9. During his illness in October 2023, Mr Ibu sought financial aid from Nigerians for his medical treatment.
  10. By November 2023, he underwent the amputation of one of his legs in a bid to prolong his life.
  11. On March 2, 2024, Mr Ibu bid farewell to life, succumbing to cardiac arrest.
