Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, and Bashir Adeniyi, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs, have introduced the N500 million Customs Officers Wives’ Association (COWA) support funds to alleviate the impact of the current hardships on vulnerable Nigerians. This announcement was made during the recent relaunch of Customs Officers Wives’ Association, COWA, in Abuja.

Represented by Oghogho Musa, the President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association, Oluremi Tinubu emphasized the federal government’s backing for initiatives aimed at alleviating hardship in Nigeria. She highlighted the importance of shared values such as compassion, respect, integrity, and empathy, urging all to spread the message of care and compassion throughout the nation.

In his goodwill message, Bashir Adeniyi, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs, underscored the pivotal role of women in mitigating hardship in the country. He mentioned that women play a crucial part in filling the societal void and disclosed that the service had allocated a land worth N35 million in Abuja for COWA.

Adeniyi further outlined COWA’s initiatives, which include the personal and professional development of officers’ wives, fostering harmonious home environments, and actively participating in community development aligned with the objectives of the Nigerian Customs Service.

Kikelomo Adeniyi, the President of COWA, announced that the N500,000 fund aims to support approximately 100,000 less privileged Nigerians nationwide in 2024. This initiative comes at a time when the National Bureau of Statistics’ December consumer price index reported an increase in the inflation rate to 29.90 percent.
