Reno Omokri Defends UNILAG Tuition Hike, Suggests Prioritizing Education Over Expensive Phones

Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the recent increase in tuition fees at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), asserting that those complaining about the hike spend comparable amounts on their electronic gadgets.

The management of UNILAG recently announced an increase in fees for undergraduate students, sparking dissatisfaction among some stakeholders.

Reacting to the widespread lament over the tuition increase, Reno Omokri questioned the discrepancy between the costs of electronic gadgets and tuition fees.

He pointed out that many students in UNILAG own high-end cars and use expensive phones, which sometimes surpass the value of their tuition fees. He highlighted that Nigeria’s tuition fees are among the lowest on Earth.

Omokri emphasized that if some students can afford luxury cars and pricey phones, they should also be able to afford the increased tuition.

He further suggested that those who find the new fees unaffordable can explore options in neighboring countries such as Benin Republic or Ghana.

The former aide also acknowledged the provision of a student loan for those who may face financial challenges in paying the tuition.

He encouraged Nigerians to prioritize the value of education over a fixation on cheap or free government services and emphasized that despite the low tuition fees in Nigeria, the country’s doctors and nurses are in high demand globally.
