Represenatives Seek Answers From Blue Economy Minister On Port Concession....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The House of Representatives summoned Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Blue Economy and Transport, on Tuesday, regarding the management of port infrastructure concessions in the country. Rep. Ibrahim Hamisu, Chairman of the House Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, expressed concerns about the methodology employed in the concession of seaport terminals. Other individuals summoned included Mr. Muhammed Koko, the Managing Director of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Mr. Mamman Ahmadu, the Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprise, and Mr. Michael Ohiani, the Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC).

Hamisu raised alarm over the inadequate handling of the concession process, citing that five companies had been operating without license renewals for three years, resulting in significant revenue losses for the Federal Government. He emphasized the urgent need to address the prolonged renewal process to attract investments into crucial port infrastructure.

Based on information received from affected parties and relevant Ministries, departments, and Agencies (MDAs) involved in the process, Hamisu highlighted the ongoing challenges. He pinpointed the execution of negotiated Supplementary Agreements for the respective terminals as the outstanding issue in concluding a process that began over five years ago. Hamisu called for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to promptly address these concerns in the best interests of both parties and the nation.
