Chairman of the Committee on Power, Victor Nwokolo, presented the report, highlighting that the increased tariff poses financial challenges for many Nigerians. The committee recommended a return to previous tariff rates, a proposal that was endorsed by the Committee of the Whole and subsequently passed.

In addition to this directive, NERC has issued a warning to DISCOs regarding poor electricity distribution. The regulatory body emphasized that DISCOs must secure at least 95% of their allocated monthly energy for distribution or face penalties. Measures include a potential reduction of 5% in the administrative and operational spending of non-compliant DISCOs for failing to meet these targets.
