Reps’ Spokesperson Condems Video Targeting Lawmakers

House of Representatives spokesperson Akin Rotimi has expressed concern over the dissemination of misleading information aimed at tarnishing the reputation of lawmakers. His remarks come in response to a viral video circulating on social media, which purportedly misrepresented the income breakdown of Yagba Federal Constituency’s representative, Leke Abejide.

Rotimi clarified that legislative salaries and allowances are determined by the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission, urging those interested to verify this information directly with the commission. He highlighted Abejide’s objection during a recent plenary session to false assertions made by social media commentator Adeola Fayehun about his earnings as a lawmaker.

The spokesperson emphasized that the viral video in question had been edited to distort the facts, underscoring the dangers of misinformation in eroding public trust and disrupting governance processes. Rotimi stressed the importance of fact-checking and relying on credible sources to combat the spread of false news, ensuring transparency and upholding democratic integrity.
