Residents Advised To Disregard Monday And Tuesday Sit-At-Home Order By IPOBThe Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has urged residents of the South-East to disregard any sit-at-home orders announced for October 21 and 22, clarifying that these directives did not originate from the group.

Recently, videos and voice messages circulated on social media warning residents to stay indoors on those dates, claiming a sit-at-home mandate had been declared. These messages threatened consequences for anyone who failed to comply, causing widespread concern, particularly in Anambra State, where many scheduled events have been postponed.

For example, court cases originally set for those days have been rescheduled, with officials expressing worries about potential disruptions from criminal elements. A court clerk in Onitsha explained that the precaution was taken to avoid any incidents during transport of defendants.

In addition, panic buying was reported in local markets as people rushed to make purchases ahead of the rumored sit-at-home. Notices were also sent to parents from schools in Onitsha, announcing the cancellation of classes for security reasons.

In response, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful stated, “IPOB did not declare any sit-at-home order on October 21 and 22. The illegal directive comes from criminal elements and infiltrators who are not affiliated with us.” He emphasized that the group encourages the community to continue their daily activities and not to be alarmed by the false reports.
