According to reports gathered on Sunday, the Madagali Bridge collapsed completely on the night of Thursday, August 15, after heavy rainfall caused the Madagali River to overflow.

As a result, individuals transporting goods between northern Adamawa and southern Borno are now forced to offload their cargo and have laborers carry it across the river on foot before transferring it to other vehicles on the opposite side.

Resident Mathew Maziga noted the severe hardship faced by those living in Madagali and Goza, emphasizing their desperate need for a swift response to repair the bridge. Suleiman Abubakar, another local, pointed out that the bridge’s collapse has led to increased prices for goods from Borno State, as traders now incur additional costs for transporting goods across the river.

The residents’ appeal came during a visit by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to the site of the collapsed bridge. Alhaji Mohammed Alkali, Managing Director of the NEDC, assured that reconstruction work would commence soon. He confirmed that President Bola Tinubu has authorized the Commission to proceed with the repairs.
