The assertion made by the presently suspended Bauchi Central Senator, Abdul Ningi, regarding the inclusion of N3.7 Billion in the 2024 budget has ignited scrutiny into the budget’s integrity and the allocation of funds for lawmakers’ constituency projects.

During a recent Senate plenary session, the discussion surrounding Ningi’s allegation prompted statements from various Senators. Cross River North Senator, Jarigbe Agbom-Jarigbe, claimed that some Senators were allocated approximately N500 million each for their constituency projects in the 2024 budget.

In a subsequent interview with Channels TV, Senate Chief Whip, Ali Ndume, disclosed that Senators received N200 million each for their constituency projects, with higher amounts granted to ranking Senators, such as himself. However, specific figures were not revealed.

These high-ranking Senators encompass various positions within the 10th Senate, including the Senate President, Deputy Senate President, leaders, and others from different party affiliations. Among them are:

  1. Godswill Akpabio: Serving as the current Senate President, Akpabio holds the highest-ranking position in the 10th Senate. He represents Akwa Ibom North-West for his second term.
  2. Jibrin Barau: Barau, the Deputy Senate President, ranks second highest in the Senate after Akpabio. Representing Kano North, he has served in the Nigerian Senate for three terms, previously serving in the House of Representatives.
  3. Opeyemi Bamidele: Bamidele, the Majority Leader in the Senate, represents Ekiti Central senatorial district. He is currently serving his second term in the Senate since 2019.
  4. Abba Moro: Representing Benue North-East, Moro has been in the Senate since 2019, succeeding the two-term Senate President, David Mark. He previously served as a Minister of Interior and currently chairs the governing council of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
  5. Ali Ndume: Ndume, a vocal Senator representing Borno South since 2011, holds the position of Senate Chief Whip. Prior to his Senate tenure, he served in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2011.
