Across Africa, Nigeria maintains strong air links with countries such as Algeria, Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Niger, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Togo, and Uganda. These routes remain vital for regional trade, business travel, and family visits.
In Asia, Nigeria offers direct connections to Lebanon, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. The Saudi routes are particularly important during Hajj and Umrah seasons, while Gulf destinations continue to serve business, tourism, and labour migration needs.
Europe is also well covered, with flights from Nigeria to France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom — heavily used by business travellers and members of the Nigerian diaspora.
In North America, Lagos and Abuja airports connect directly to major U.S. hubs including Atlanta and New York. The Lagos–Atlanta route, stretching 5,835 miles and lasting nearly 12 hours, currently stands as Nigeria’s longest non-stop service.
As of August 2025, Nigeria’s international network spans 56 airports in 30 countries, serviced by 38 airlines. Local operators such as Air Peace, Ibom Air, and United Nigeria Airlines operate alongside global carriers like Ethiopian Airlines, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa, British Airways, and Emirates. Seasonal services also run from 14 additional airports across the country, depending on passenger demand.
Nigeria is now set to expand further, with Brazil joining its direct flight network following the signing of a Bilateral Air Service Agreement during President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to Brasília. Air Peace is expected to launch the Lagos–São Paulo service, while LATAM Airlines is likely to reciprocate. The new route, last flown by VARIG in the 1970s and 1990s, will reduce travel time to about 10 hours.
With Brazil included, Nigeria’s direct flight network will cover 31 countries, strengthening its position as a regional aviation hub.
